About us

The Veterinary Education Center (further - VIC) of Faculty of Veterinary medicine (VMF) of Latvia University of Life sciences and Technologies (LBTU) is focused on the professional continuous education of veterinarians and veterinary medicine students. Seminars, courses, practical classes, online seminars and various events also are organised for other professionals in the field.

VIC has been organising events since 2013, offering training on various topics every year, keeping up with current news and involving various lecturers to make the events as meaningful as possible. After each event, the evaluation questionnaires filled out by the participants are carefully analysed and the aforementioned recommendations often become the inertia of future events. Thus, each participant directly influences the training topics and selected lecturers. What's more - everyone can become a training lecturer themselves. If you feel the desire and ability to share your knowledge, contact us!

Since the pandemic, many events have been taking place on the Zoom platform with the opportunity to watch recordings at a time and place of participant choice even after the live broadcasts. Veterinarians, students, teaching staff, assistants, pharmacists, veterinary drug distributors, farm animal owners, etc., appreciate this opportunity! Sometimes events are free to participate but mostly an appropriate participation fee is charged to cover all organisational costs. Sometime events are organised in English, providing an opportunity to learn also for English students from our Faculty and students, colleagues from other countries.

Information about the events is sent out by e-mail - please subsrcribe! All information is also easily accessible on the VIC social network accounts, the Latvian Veterinary Association (LVB) and our website, the LVB magazine, as well as on the VMF info walls! In-person events are often special - meetings and reunions of colleagues in the premises of their alma mater.

Once a year, we organise on site postgraduate training for veterinary medicine specialists to obtain a certificate that works in practice with X-ray diagnostic equipment. Recertification is scheduled every 5 years. The training is also valuable for those who want to refresh their knowledge in radiation safety, to consolidate the topics offered. The program is approved by the Radiation Safety Center of the State Environmental Service, the Latvian Veterinary Association and the Faculty of Veterinary medicine.

All VIC events are registered as CE events, a certificate is issued for the attended trainings and information about the participants who received certificates is sent to the LVB and the L Radiation Safety Center of Latvia, The Rural Support Service of Latvia, if the topics are relevant. CE hours are stated on certificate.
